Petite Stitchery Baby Bitty Bells

I have been not so patiently waiting for baby sized bell bottoms from Petite Stitchery since testing the girls pattern last Fall.  The wait is finally over and the Baby Bitty Bells are finally here and they do not disappoint!

This pattern features three different flare options:  bootcut, medium flare and large flare.  You can choose from a knit waistband or elastic waistband.  They also have added a jumper option which is my very favorite!  I may or may not have already sewn up eight pairs for her already and do not plan on stopping.  Bell bottoms are the new leggings this year at my house.

For the pairs pictured below I used the medium flare and knit waistband.  I also slightly mashed sizes which was very easy to do.  My daughter measures 18 month in girth but 12 month in width and inseam length.  So the straight 18 month is too big and size 12 is too small.  To adjust for her measurements I simply used the 12 month length and width, however, I used the 18 month rise and they fit PERFECT.

Sunflowers were my favorite during my teenage years and I am SO happy they are back in style.  These sunflowers from Raspberry Creek Fabrics are gorgeous and I knew as soon as I saw them they would be amazing bell bottoms.   They are by far my favorite pair I have sewn up so far.  I paired it with the Juliet leotard also from Petite Stitchery in cotton lycra from Purple Seamstress and added some fringe trim to the bodice to add to the boho feel of the sunflowers.

 

For the jumper option I wanted something more neutral that would pair with multiple tops.  I went with a faux denim I got last Fall from Knitpop and also paired it with another Juliet leotard in a mustard polka dot from Hobby Lobby that screams Fall to me.  I have stretch corduroy planned for the next jumper!

Petite Stitchery Dax Wardrobe Builder

I was so excited to test out the new boys pattern for Petite Stitchery recently.  The Dax Wardrobe Builder is perfect for building up your son’s Fall wardrobe.  You can create an entire capsule wardrobe from this one pattern alone and it has a huge range of sizes from 2T all the way up to 20 so it will be used for years and years.

This pattern is so versatile offering tank, short or long sleeves for the top and pants or shorts length for the bottoms.  Tons of extras also including in seam pockets, kangaroo pocket, t shirt style pocket, hood, and faux drawstring.  Here’s a look at the line drawing showing the options to choose from.

Since it’s still sweltering hot here in South Florida I opted for short sleeves on the top and shorts.  I added in seam pockets on the shorts and both the kangaroo pocket and hood on the top.  If your son is like mine pockets and a hood make any outfit awesome.

My son fell in love with a cotton lycra super hero print at Hobby Lobby so we scooped up a yard when it went on clearance this summer.  I paired it with a french terry fleece knit I found at Fashion Fabrics Club.  I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect with the fleece in the title but it is divine.  Super soft and perfect for some lounge shorts!  My girls are now requesting some comfy clothes with it as well.

I can’t wait to sew up the pants when the weather cools off with some coordinating tops!  This pattern is on sale for a short time so scoop it up here and whip up a Fall capsule for your son!  I’d love to see what you create:)

Pattern Review: Vintage Lace Jumper by Rain City Patterns

I was so excited to test out the new Vintage Lace Jumper pattern for Rain City Patterns this summer.  This was my first pattern with her and I love it so much.  The jumper features a vintage length with ruffle, crossed suspender straps, back elastic and pleating on the flat front waistband.  Don’t care for the straps?  Just leave them off and you have a gorgeous skirt!

I always have to grade patterns pretty drastically for my skinny ten year old and this was no exception.  I sewed up a 4 width/10 length size for Ava and it was super easy to grade with all rectangle pieces and fit her just perfect.  This is also a beginner friendly pattern, if you have a sewing machine then you can make this.  We were lucky enough to be visiting her grandparents Indiana farm to get these lovely pictures which emphasize the summer vintage feel to this jumper.

Pattern Review: Brynn Top by Sew a Little Seam

I was so excited to test out the new Brynn Top pattern for Sew a Little Seam this month.  I love sewing up her patterns and this top is PACKED with options! It’s truly the last shirt pattern you’ll need to buy for your girls -and your guys- as it can be totally gender neutral as well.  Just take a look at these line drawings with over 18 sleeve options, multiple hems, ties and fun extras to choose from:

I tested this top for two of my girls and since it’s summer here in South Florida I chose to go with the sleeveless option for my first ones.  I chose bands for arms and neckline (there are also visible and non-visible binding options), curved back hemlines and front ties.  My youngest is wearing a 6 month width graded to 12 month height and my older daughter is wearing a 5 width graded to a 6 height.  The fit is spot on for their measurements and the pattern is super easy to grade as well.  These tops are great for dressing up or down and I see many more in their wardrobe!
