Petite Stitchery Saffron and Sage Patterns

I was able to test out three new woven patterns for Petite Stitchery these last few weeks.  The Baby SaffronSaffron, the Girls Saffron , and the Girls Sage all released this week and are fantastic for Fall!

The Girls Sage  is a great layering piece for Fall as you can wear it over a shirt or you can wear it alone and throw on a cardigan when it cools off.  This pattern comes in a top or dress length with a feminine V shape on the bodice.  You can choose from a color blocked bodice, slip on without closures, solid bodice or a button placket.  It also includes optional pockets.  I have grown to love buttons but I am also a sucker for a quick no closure sew which this was!  For ours I chose the dress length, slip on solid bodice with pockets.  This bodice is great for embellishing with trim, buttons, lace, you name it.  I layered ours over the Sapphire which is a great layering piece.  I used a dark olive cotton lycra from Purple Seamstress for the shirt and both fabrics for the dress are from Joann.  Grading between sizes was super easy as well, I graded this as a size 10 for length with a size 5 for width to get that perfect fit.

Next up are both the  Baby Saffron and the Girls Saffron patterns.  Both patterns include options for a scoop back slip on bodice, button back bodice, and 2 different color blocked bodice options.  There are 3 sleeve lengths, 3 skirt lengths and a pocket option with both patterns.  The baby pattern also includes a bubble romper option with a snap panel.  This pattern is also great for adding fun embellishments like trim and lace.  I only needed to grade the baby pattern for a 12 month width and 18 month length and again it was very simple to do to get that perfect fit.

For the baby pattern I sewed up a bubble romper and a color blocked slip on bodice dress.  For the girls size I also sewed up a color blocked slip on bodice dress.  The romper fabric and lace are both last season from Hobby Lobby as well as the animal fabric on both dresses.

Petite Stitchery Baby Bitty Bells

I have been not so patiently waiting for baby sized bell bottoms from Petite Stitchery since testing the girls pattern last Fall.  The wait is finally over and the Baby Bitty Bells are finally here and they do not disappoint!

This pattern features three different flare options:  bootcut, medium flare and large flare.  You can choose from a knit waistband or elastic waistband.  They also have added a jumper option which is my very favorite!  I may or may not have already sewn up eight pairs for her already and do not plan on stopping.  Bell bottoms are the new leggings this year at my house.

For the pairs pictured below I used the medium flare and knit waistband.  I also slightly mashed sizes which was very easy to do.  My daughter measures 18 month in girth but 12 month in width and inseam length.  So the straight 18 month is too big and size 12 is too small.  To adjust for her measurements I simply used the 12 month length and width, however, I used the 18 month rise and they fit PERFECT.

Sunflowers were my favorite during my teenage years and I am SO happy they are back in style.  These sunflowers from Raspberry Creek Fabrics are gorgeous and I knew as soon as I saw them they would be amazing bell bottoms.   They are by far my favorite pair I have sewn up so far.  I paired it with the Juliet leotard also from Petite Stitchery in cotton lycra from Purple Seamstress and added some fringe trim to the bodice to add to the boho feel of the sunflowers.

 

For the jumper option I wanted something more neutral that would pair with multiple tops.  I went with a faux denim I got last Fall from Knitpop and also paired it with another Juliet leotard in a mustard polka dot from Hobby Lobby that screams Fall to me.  I have stretch corduroy planned for the next jumper!

Pattern Review: Petite Stitchery Fair-Weather Trousers

I was so excited to test out the new Fair-Weather Trousers for Petite Stitchery these last few weeks!  Like their other patterns I have tested out this one is also full of options.  My girls fell in love with the bib (overalls) option so that is what we tested out.  There are also different variations for paperbag waist pants.  All of the options can be made in shorts, capri or pants length and with wide or tapered leg and several different pockets.  This pattern has a huge size range from 2-17 as well.

We are heading into summer here in South Florida where it is hot all the time so we opted for tapered shorts on both pairs of overalls.  These will be so quick to throw on over a swimsuit for trips to the beach.  For the first pair I used a woven from Joann that Ava has been eyeing for quite some time (I mean who doesn’t love unicorns!).  For the second pair I used a cotton woven also from Joann as Annabel has been on a sunflower kick lately.  The cotton wovens I used work great for the tapered shorts but you will definitely need to use a drapier/flowier woven if you decide to go with the wide leg options. I used buttons on the straps and shorts cuffs for both pairs but you can opt for easier snaps instead.   I also wanted a cleaner finish on the inside facing of my bibs than the pattern called for.  I cut two sets of facing, sewed right sides together, flipped and top stitched to enclose the raw seam before attaching the facing to the overalls.  It was a few extra steps but I love the nice finished look on the inside so much better.   I paired both bibs with a Sapphire top which is my favorite layering top, it’s quick and has ruffle options built into the pattern.

We will be making the shorts next as I am just in love with the paperbag waist! This pattern will be a staple in both my girls summer wardrobe this year.  And, they also just released this in women’s sizing as well so you can sew these up for yourself too!

Petite Stitchery Back to School Collection

I was so excited to test out a few new patterns in the Back to School Collection for Petite Stitchery last week.  The Schoolhouse Tunic and the Tardy Bells are so fun and versatile for Fall!  My girls are in completely in love with both styles.

Living in South Florida we don’t need warm clothes for Fall so I was thrilled to see that the Schoolhouse Tunic had both short sleeve and sleeveless options.  I sewed up the short sleeve version for both but plan to try a sleeveless version with flutters next time!  It also fits a wide range of sizes going from size 2-12.  This pattern is perfect for that boho chic style with the full bottom ruffle and optional chest ruffle with or without accent buttons.  It’s also a great pattern for using up scraps with the color blocking on the sides.  I love mixing and matching fabrics so this pattern was right up my alley.  The tunic is full of options to get totally different looks all from the same pattern.

The Tardy Bells are probably my favorite pants pattern I have ever sewed up.  They are incredibly quick to sew up, as fast as a pair of leggings.  I was able to cut and sew each pair in under 20 minutes the first time.  There are elastic and knit waistband options which is great for my girls who hate elastic waistbands.  They were easy to grade for sizing with my very thin tall 9 year old who needed a 4 width and 8 length as well.  And, rumor is that ladies sizes are in the works!  My high school flare leg jean loving self is a little too excited about this prospect!
